Israeli Elections: Hegemony Over Homogeny


I have been trying to find something positive to write about the recent Israeli elections. I just cannot. There is simply nothing good about it. It simply is just the continuation of the status quo and that is not good for Palestinians and really not good for Israelis as well.  For the Palestinians, the status quo means the continuation of the occupation and the deprivation of the human spirit to be free. For the Israelis, it means that the lack of a clear expressive desire for peace in the election outcome ignores the ever increasing demographic boiling point which is turning Israel into the old Apartheid regime of South Africa.

The basic result of the Israeli election is that the right wing and center-right parties are likely to end up with 61 of the legislative seats in the Israeli Knesset, thus continuing the status quo of the Benjamin Netanyahu Government.

The status quo of domination over the Palestinians is what Israel wants for the region but this only exasperates and heightens the inevitable inner Palestinian human spirit to evolve towards the will to be free. Israel prefers hegemony over--instead of homogeny with--the Palestinians; it would rather dominate the Palestinians rather than treat them with equality. This is the crust of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. The result of the Israeli elections elevated this inherent perplexity to the forefront; yet, Israelis seem oblivious to the fact that this clash between Israeli dominance and the Palestinian spirit to be free will come crashing down when the current trends in the demographics will result in an anticipated Palestinian majority in 2016.

In essence, I argue that inevitably Israel cannot suppress the will of 4.29 million Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza who desire to be free of occupation and a relentless siege.  By 2016, it is projected that the Palestinian population in Israel, West Bank and Gaza will outnumber the Israeli non-Arab population.

Suppressing the Palestinian desire to be free perpetuates the status quo. Keeping the status quo is rooted in the aspiration of maintaining a Jewish homeland as Jews around the world feel secure in having Israel be a safe haven given world history of atrocities toward Jews. Thus, The Israeli election also tells me that Israelis are horrified of losing the concept of a Jewish homeland and therefore are clinging onto the status quo. Given the history of the Jewish people, that fear is warranted; but this aspiration driven by historical fear comes at the expense of the Palestinian people.  Finding a solution that would alleviate that fear while acknowledging the inevitability of the Palestinian human spirit to be free is what is needed to resolve the conflict.

The Israeli election did not shift Israeli politics to the left or right but rather left it smack where it has been—standing still.  Peace talks are standing still because Palestinians feel that there is no use in endless talks that lead to nowhere.  The Occupation of Palestinian land is standing still—continuing in its fifth decade.  Yet the fermenting Israeli suppression of Palestinian aspirations is about to boil over.  The Israeli elections did not alleviate this tension.

Israelis have consistently expressed security concerns in the 20 plus years of attempts at trying to negotiate a final solution with the Palestinians.  I interpret this security concern to mean a safe haven for Jews all over the world.  This security may ultimately be elusive however, if it comes at the expense of the Palestinians, for the natural course of human development is to be free from the oppressor’s chains that bind the collective individual conscience. 

This has been demonstrated time and time again with the thirteen American colonies breaking away from the British King; with the French masses overthrowing the absolute monarchy; with Black South Africans breaking the White Minority Rule apartheid chains; with Gandhi leading his people to overthrow the mighty British Empire; with the eventual American realization that slavery cannot long endure; and with many countless other examples where peoples all over the globe repelled imperialist colonial hegemony.

The Palestinian human spirit is no different than the American colonists, the French masses, India’s masses and the Black South Africans.  The Israeli election did not negate the Palestinian spirit; in fact that spirit has regenerated and grows with each Palestinian generation. 

The social revolution which opens the world to all also opens the spirits of the Palestinian people. Palestinians are not oblivious to the freedoms enjoyed around the world and they desire that same freedom in their daily lives.  As Palestinians interact with the globe community on social network sites, their human spirit to be free grows. Social networks exponentially inspire the Palestinian youth to lift off the chain that suppresses their collective bondage that the Israeli occupation imposes upon them.

The Israeli election takes little note of this growing social internet revolution and shows that Israelis would rather continue to believe that the colonial aspirations of the past several centuries is still prevalent in today’s age. That belief is antiquated and it leaves Israel further isolated around the family of nations.

Recently, the Palestinian human spirit has gained from international recognition and international intervention.  The upgrade in Palestine’s status at the United Nations has inspired Palestinians in that it gave them faith in the world community, while the truce between Israel and Hamas,  brokered by the US and Egypt and international pressure against a ground assault, excited the Palestinian will to fight off Israeli aggression.

Again, the Israeli election results seemed oblivious to growing worldly sentiment that the Palestinian human spirit is on the road towards freedom. The question is will Israelis ride along with the Palestinians or will Israelis fate be that of the White Minority rulers of South Africa.

            Israeli’s fate is really in their hands—or more accurately in their right to vote.  Palestinian’s fate is in the natural evolution of their human spirit.

هل الروح البشرية اطاحة نظام الفصل العنصري الإسرائيلي

The Human Spirit Will Overthrow Apartheid Israel


The human spirit has a great capacity for righteousness and understanding.  It sees through the cloudiest day. It sees through the darkest night. It breaks off the indignities of injustice. It gives hope to the distraught.

The human spirit knows that Apartheid Israel is not ready for peace no matter who is Prime Minister.  The structure of the Apartheid Israeli system of government is such that it has to rule by a coalition government. Thus the weakest link within that coalition has all the power within that government for if its policies are not adhered to than the government will be toppled.

There are now at least 6 major parties that will compete in any future elections for the Apartheid Knesset seats each receiving about 15 seats on average, with the rest controlled by smaller political parties. The party with the highest seats is expected to be Likud with only 24, a far cry from the 61 needed to rule alone. Thus any government that will run Israel will have to have the likes of the Shas Party, whose spiritual leader wants to annihilate Palestinians, much less make peace with them; or with the Yisrael Beiteinu Party, whose leader is as fanatical as they come.

It is politically impossible for Israel to want a final peace agreement with the likes of these extremist parties within any government, either of which will most likely be a part of any coalition government. With the Kadima Party and the new unnamed Party likely to be formed by recently turned politician, Channel 2 anchorman Yair Lapid, not likely to strike a deal with Apartheid-in-Chief Netanyahu, Likud will have to turn once again to one or both the Shas and Yisrael Beteinu parties to join his coalition again.

The Parties to the center or left of Apartheid Israeli political ideologies cannot form a coalition government as the Shas and Yisrael Beteinu parties are too far right in their ideologies to join the likes of Kadima and Labor.  But even if I am wrong and they do join a government led by Labor or Kadima, then their participation in any government will conditioned on an adherence to their political ideologies—continuation of settlement expansion around Jerusalem and in the West Bank which is in effect death to any two state solution.

But this only brings hope as the human spirit knows that apartheid cannot be sustained.  The divisions in Apartheid Israel can only lead to the destruction of Israeli form of government, i.e. the Israeli apartheid system and to the eventual one state solution.  

 Let me explain.

 Apartheid Israel cannot continue to function as it does.  It is a house divided.  Read my article entitled Apartheid Israel is a House Divided (http://fadizanayed.blogspot.com/2012/01/apartheid-israel-is-house-divided-it.html).  It has too many obvious divisions within its political makeup that is cannot function for much longer.

Briefly, the divisions are within its political system, its divisions between Jews and Arabs within its mist; its military occupation rule over 4.5 Palestinians while it rules differently the five hundred thousand illegal apartheid settlers  in the West Bank; its division of cultures: Jews only by-pass roads, different license  plates for Jews and Palestinians, an apartheid separation wall, electronic prison holding fences around Palestinian towns, restricted entry and exist points dotting the West Bank Palestinian towns, destruction of Palestinian agriculture, and the humiliating and offensive checkpoints that are a daily reminder that the Palestinian soul is not free.

These divisions that a politically divided Apartheid Israel perpetuates each time it has an election only leads to the self-destructive path that it will eventually succumb to.  

Given that the system of government in Apartheid Israel cannot possibly lead to a final peace settlement, any negotiation with it is a complete waste of time as Apartheid Israel only wants to delay the inevitable—the Palestinian human spirit’s desire to be free which will cause Apartheid Israel’s destruction and the eventual one state solution.

Still Palestinian leaders in Ramallah have caved in to pressures from King Abdullah of Jordan and to the Quartet members of the United States, European Union, Soviet Union and the United Nations and have met twice with the chief Israeli negotiator in Amman, Jordan these past two weeks.

To further entice the Palestinians to continue to negotiate, Chief Apartheid Netanyahu is about to give the Fatah led West Bank more land to control.  This appeasement mentality is another delay tactic which is meant to continue the Israeli apartheid practices.  There is no hint that Apartheid Israel will stop settlement expansion; that it will begin final status talks on Jerusalem, right of return and borders; or that peace will definitely come at some real definite time. Rather, Apartheid Israel wants to delay, delay, delay.

Further, appeasement measures by Chief Apartheid Netanyahu are meant to destroy reconciliation attempts between Fatah and Hamas and to prevent Palestinians from seeking international recognition at the UN.  It is very likely that pressure upon President Mahmoud Abbas, leader of the Fatah Party, to meet with Apartheid Israeli negotiators is meant to lead Hamas to withdraw from reconciliation with Fatah.  Fatah should not participate in the schemes of Apartheid Israel and its chief supporter the US.

While I understand that the monetary incentives that the West provides the Fatah led government in the West Bank are stabilizing to the economy and political fervor of Palestinians, negotiations with Israel is like burying oneself in the ground with just enough air, water and food—in essence killing the human spirit to be free.

The human spirit to be free overcame a British King as American colonist declared its Independence on July 4, 1776 with the words: “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The human spirit revolutionized France in 1789 to unshackle the traditions and hierarchy concepts of the monarchy, aristocracy and religious authority and bring forth new Enlightenment principles of equality, citizenship and inalienable rights.  

The human spirit brought down apartheid in South Africa.

The human spirit ousted the mighty British Empire from India.

The human spirit completely destroyed the slavery mentality in America only to revitalize itself and bring forth equality to all men, woman and children.


                The human spirit will eventually destroy the apartheid practices of Israel.  It is inevitable. A one state solution is the only alternative to Apartheid Israel.

Apartheid Israel Is A House Divided. It Will Self-Destruct.


         A recent poll in the Apartheid State of Israel reveals that if elections for its Knesset were held in December, 2011, more of the same would be what Israelis want—no peace. The poll reinforces my argument that Israel is a house divided and that it will self-destruct.

          In an article about veteran Israeli news anchor turned politician, Yair Lapid, who will likely form a new independent political party, would receive 15 Knesset seats.  The majority of the other remaining seats would be split among Likud, Yisrael Beiteinu, Labor, Kadima and Shas, leaving no political party with a clear majority.  In fact, Apartheid-in-Chief Benjamin Natanyahu’s Likud Party will retain its status as the largest political party with 24 seats, with only twenty percent of the Apartheid Knesset.

        The entry of Lapid into the Apartheid Israeli political scene means that the trend of coalition governments will continue for the foreseeable future.  

         In the 64 year history of Apartheid Israel, only once has it had one party which won at least 61 seats, a majority of the Apartheid Knesset. With about 6 political parties each winning 10 seats or more in a 120 member Knesset, the Apartheid Israeli public gives no clear direction as to which way the country should move.  Thus the status quo is the only direction that Apartheid Israelis seek.

         This means that there is no clear cut majority in Israel that wants peace.   Lapid, whose views are not widely known, would probably be a centralist candidate taking votes away from Labor and and Kadima parties.  It would seem that no clear group of parties, whether on the left or right would have a majority to form a separate coalition.  Thus a combination of coalition parties from the right and left, as is currently the case in Chief Apartheid Natanyahu’s government, would have to form a ruling coalition. 

         With that scenario, the ruling coalition will continue to be subject to the whims of the smallest political party amongst them, thus continuing the status quo.

        The status quo according to Apartheid Israel is a continuation of the cruel occupation; continuation of illegal settlement building, especially around East Jerusalem; continuation of the apartheid wall; continuation of military rule of 4.5 million Palestinians; continuation of apartheid practices that cannot be sustained; continuation of the denial of the Palestinian right of return; and continuation of the eventual self-destruction of Apartheid Israel.  

         I have stated in previous articles that Apartheid Israelis must do some soul searching.  They must come to terms with Mohandas Gandhi’s words:  “A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.”  The recent poll, which tells us that the heart and soul of Apartheid Israelis is divided between the left, center and right political extremes, suggest that there is deep divisions within Apartheid Israel.   This reminds me of President Abraham Lincoln’s famous speech in which the US during the pre-US Civil War years was split between Free States and Slavery States.  He said then that “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

         Apartheid Israel is divided in so many ways. As discussed above it is divided politically.  It is divided amongst secular Jews and ultra-righteous Jews.  It is divided between Jews and Arabs within its mist. It has two sets of laws governing Jews and Palestinians. It divides Jews and Palestinians through separatist enclaves , Jews only by-pass roads, license plates, military check points, electronic wired fences around Palestinian towns, restricted entry and exit gates and other restrictions and divisions.


        With all these differences, Apartheid Israel is a house divided. It will self-destruct.
